From it's beginnings in Napa Valley's Oak Knoll District, BVM Inc., under Al's capable leadership, has expanded over the past twenty years to include vineyard properties in Napa, Sonoma, and El Dorado Counties.

Biography

Al began his viticultural career on the historic, 900-acre Oak Knoll Ranch in the Napa Valley. Over the past twenty years, Buckland Vineyard Management Inc., under Al's capable leadership, has expanded to include vineyard properties in Napa, Sonoma, and El Dorado Counties.

Al has continually kept abreast of the rapid changes in viticulture through attendance and participation in wine industry seminars and forums. He maintains professional association membership in the California Association of Winegrape Growers, the El Dorado Wine Grape Growers Association, the Napa Valley Grape Growers Association, and the Sonoma County Grape Growers Association.

Throughout his career, Al has been actively involved with various agricultural and resource conservation organizations where he has demonstrated his commitment and service to the preservation of agricultural resources. His efforts over the last twenty years have contributed to protecting and enhancing grape growers’ ability to profitably engage in the business of producing premium wine grapes.

Some of the highlights of his accomplishments:

• From 1988 to 1990, he served as the President of the Napa County Farm Bureau, where he continued to serve on their Board of Directors until 1996.

• From 1994 to 1996, he served as the President of the Napa Valley Grape Growers Association, where he continued to serve on their Board of Directors until 1998.

• Spearheaded the formation of the Napa Sustainable Winegrowing Group, whose mission is to identify and promote grape growing practices that are economically viable, socially responsible, and environmentally sound.

• Was named as "Cooperator of the Year" by the Napa County Resource Conservation District for work accomplished during 1996.

• Currently serves as a Director of the Napa County Resource Conservation District Board of Directors.

• Currently serves as a Director of the Napa River Watershed Conservancy/Watershed Information Center Board of Directors.

• Initiated the development of the Dry Creek Watershed Stewardship group.
